For Zappool, I have an idea for a hybrid mode: set an arbitrary percentage, and some work goes to pooled mining, some to solo. So there's a probability for you to hit the jackpot (full block reward, but lower chance), but also get some small instant rewards.
Parasite Pool splits the block reward: 1 btc goes to the one who found it, the rest is distributed as a pool. It's nice that the 1 btc goes non-custodially directly to the lucky user (in the coinbase).

Another piece in the pool puzzle...
Zappool had an outage, fixed, and apologies!
The reason was my human error (not technical, late hosting payment 🥺).
Fixed, restarted, hashrate came back, all seems fine.
There was no payout yesterday, as the outage started just before payout time.
If a miner has a second backup pool configured, and the primary becomes unavailable, it will auto-switch to the secondary, and eventually it will switch back to the primary if available again.
I need to improve monitoring.

I expect BIP110 to degenerate into an ugly fight (and fail spectacularly), and I'd like to keep Zappool far from the fan that will get hit by catshit.

Ocean was selected because of technical reasons -- easy way to do own template and add hooks, lightning payments -- and bc it's fully permissionless. But yeah, even though Zappool uses its own template, and most Ocean blocks are special template not Ocean's own, it's not possible to detach from Ocean's strong affiliation with filtering and Knots and Luke Dashjr. And BIP110 lately. It would be much better if Zappool didn't have to deal with that shit.
Braiins pool (formerly Slush) is nice. It doesn't allow for own template, and talk is that they use Antpool template. They have LN, and you can reg with an email only (I think). It would be nice to have Braiins as an option for pool backend.
It would need a custom stratumv1 proxy and the Braiins interfacing. I will put it on the roadmap.

Unfortunately @OCEAN uses fixed 128k diff, which is not optimal for a Bitaxe, it takes 2-30 minutes...

Due to the 3 days without blocks on Ocean, in the last two days there were hardly any payouts (one). For reasons not entirely clear, an Ocean block commits roughly the same regardless if it happens after 5 minutes or after 3 days of the previous one. As a result, the actual committed amount will be lower than what Zappool has estimated -- and paid out in advance. It takes 1-2 days to even out, and pay again.
