It said inspection systems so one might think a specific ML system(s), perhaps using imagery or tool outputs to identify specific patterns or measurements. But it's not clear. Either way, they saw improvement after putting humans back in the loop

A lot of media coverage of the ‘AI’ reading of the Herculaneum scrolls really fails to understand what’s happened here. There’s no language processing happening, the AI/ML is not trained on a corpus of texts or language. It can detect ink to see shapes. HUMAN EXPERTS are then transcribing the text.

I'm not seeing much commentary on how the insane sentences for the Texas Prairieland "antifa terrorists" are a symptom of having been tried in Texas, which is how the law works but also subjects protesters to extremist juries and judges in red states & districts. We saw this partisanship happen with Kyle Rittenhouse, as well, when he had a judge who obviously sympathized with him and treated him with special deference throughout the trial as if he was a hero. If these protesters were tried in a blue area and had Dem-appointed judges, certainly the shooter would have been convicted of the shooting but some of the charges might not have stuck to some of the charged protesters, and the sentencing would likely have been wildly different for some or all of them. Is justice blind? Not even slightly. Judges, especially right wing ones, are political activists who are driving agendas as much as any anti-fascist protester.

I was born before the Voting Rights Act. I was born before Roe v. Wade. When I was born living an independent life was purposefully difficult for women and people of color in the white patriarchy, you didn't have the same rights under law as a white man and the society did use that against you. Then things got better over the next few decades for many people, even for LGBTQ people. We had a leap of progress. Some things like pay equality never quite got there, but overall, many repairs were made. We got used to things being better for everyone even if not quite there yet. But during that time regressive right wing extremists of the white patriarchy were plotting and working to set the conditions, such as our current reactionary SCOTUS, to take it all away using religion and bigotry and imaginary law, and their success at that is what we're living through right now. I think most people are disgusted and angered by this, and I hope this lurch backward is just the last gasp of a horrible, dying ideology that we'll overcome within years, not decades. I want to see it happen while I'm still around.
