Crimson clover and phacelia green manures being left to flower. Their beautiful flowers, phacelia in particular are much loved by bees. #Gardening #NoMowMay #LetItBloomJune

It’s good to see the bees have been and are busy. The main bee hotel is almost full.

Various bumblebees and solitary bees have been pollinating the available flowers on the plot this afternoon. From field and broad beans, comfrey, alliums, soft fruit and flowers. #Gardening #Pollinators #Bees #Allotment

Hot compost Day 6. Turned the hot compost for a second time into a taller, narrower pile. It was just over 40°C/104F when I left it.

It will be left to continue to heat up and then to gradually cool down. When it drops below 27°C/80F the worms will move in and start to do their magic.

This pile will be weed free potting compost for use next spring.#Compost #Composting #SolarPunkSunday

The compost pile I built from successive layers of grass clippings, wood chip and horse manure less than 48 hours ago is cooking nicely. Currently reading 67°C (152F). #Compost #Composting #SolarPunkSunday #Allotment #Gardening

A bouquet of flowers picked from the garden on this day three years apart. The pink bouquet is from today, the yellow bouquet is from 2023.

Only the forget-me-nots and yellow wallflowers are present at the same time of year as they were three years ago.
