What is "Economics 101" rather depends on position on political spectrum, and whether one is a net payer or recipient of "taxes".

Laffer curve and that cop testify that raising taxes doesn't lower demand, but rather increases tax avoidance by driving demand underground.

Hazlitt's " Economics in One Lesson" and Marshall postulate that "the power to tax involves the power to destroy" also come to mind.

If it's assumed that it's government that actually "funds" their "programmes", then sure, Australia is 6% below OECD tax to GDP average. So plenty room left to rationalise increased socialism.
