بسیاری از پروژه‌های ارز دیجیتال و بلاکچین که بیشتر به دنبال بهره‌برداری از کاربران بودند، با کمک فین‌فلوئنسرهایی که بدون آگاهی یا با نیت سودجویی، آن‌ها را تبلیغ می‌کردند، گسترش یافتند. این افراد به جای ارائه اطلاعات دقیق و شفاف، با ایجاد هیجان کاذب و وعده‌های غیرواقعی، کاربران را به سمت پروژه‌هایی کشاندند که در نهایت چیزی جز هدر دادن زمان و سرمایه نبود.

وقتی به میزان وقتی که افراد در این سیرک صرف کرده‌اند فکر کنیم، هزینه‌های فرصت از دست‌رفته کاملاً قابل توجه است. مسئولیت فین‌فلوئنسرها در این بین غیرقابل انکار است؛ چرا که با معرفی این پروژه‌ها، اعتماد بسیاری را خدشه‌دار کردند و به گسترش ناآگاهی دامن زدند.
