As far as I can tell, it's happening when I'm on any network - several WiFi points and two different mobile networks. I'd prefer to use tor when and where possible, if I can, but this might put me off...

It sounds like you are using Tor+VPN which is probably causing the issue.

I use Amethyst and the internal Tor functionality and have never seen this error.

I find it weird that the app reports two different numbers of steps.

Let's hope it improves.

In the notifications I've walked 11185 steps.

In the #runstr app I've done nothing apparently.

Today I walked for two hours, taken over 12000 steps, and #RUNSTR recorded exactly 0.00 Km. I wish I knew how to convince #RUNSTR I'm moving so that I could use it instead of Sports Tracker.
