#smartphone cameras made in the last decade are equiped with #AI enhancements to fill in the gaps left by the tiny optical sensor. This is very noticeable if you look for it, but I've never seen something as egregious as this.

@Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: @nprofile1q... wdym by "worth it"? I think constraining code optimization to file boundaries, while it may have been practical to save resources, doesn't make a lot of sense conceptually. Letting the optimizer operate on everything is a no-brainer and an easy win imo. It might've uncovered some bugs in the past but by now all linux distros and modern languages enable it by default (in release mode).
I've seen it remove parameters and inline the entire program in some of my projects. It's crazy.

@nprofile1q... @Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: There's no reason for a C compiler to not compile straight to machine code. Popular ones doing so is an implementation detail and a bit of unix heritage - now you have to define the instruction set in multiple places *and* a language to interface with the assembler.
I do agree it helps with debugging and make implementing asm() statements trivial, but I've seen commercial C compilers skip the assembler before (providing a disassembler for debugging instead).

Every time someone suggests that dynamic linking or ABI stability isn't necessary, I want them to consider that they're making me deal with things like a python package that pulls and builds the entirety of v8 as part of its build procedure.

@Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: Yeah, while he was everpresent in the MLP community, after dropping it for contractual obligations he peaked even harder with his FNAF stuff, and is ever so popular nowadays, so I understand when people go like "wow it sounds like an FNAF song", but still like come on why are people so shocked and defensive about it. I've seen comments about being ashamed for liking it because it's MLP like you'd see back in 2012 or something, I thought we were over this.
