Theres something about AI that i find boring. I cant put my finger on it, I was excited about the rise of social media, about bitcoin about VR. AI seems like it only exists to increase productivity in non human terms. At least there was something about connecting people through social media, and increasing freedom through bitcoin.

LLMs feel like the opposite of that. I am uneasy and a bit uninterested.

I started doing that first Trump term after catching one thing live before getting the spin on it. After that, I basically don't assume knowledge of something that happened unless I consume the whole thing myself, with context and without commentary.

How fo you like modern jazz inspired by modern hiphop.

Hip Hop is like the ultimate symbol of the transformation we went through in the 90s. Turntables allowed for the beginning of sampling breakbeats. Hype men started improvising words to keep crowds entertained. The sampling of breakbeats got codified into the musical aesthetic and we not only kept sampling, we started making beats that sound like they are sampled. Then that started influencing how people play their instruments, to resemble chopped up samples.

Its a beautiful circle.

The thing about Kendrick is that he's an artist among the greatest of all time. His work has a depth that has been studied deeply, is layered, and is extremely meticulous. He's much closer to high art than entertainment. On top of that he's so popular that he doesn't care about the people that don't know him. The throughline of his career is self reflective grappling with the question of his role as an influence and a representative of his culture.

So he took the opportunity to do the Superbowl as a way to elevate his art. Almost didn't play his hits, instead played some introspective pieces in a crafted stage. The whole performance is packed with symbolism covered in a ghetto hoodrat package. Thing is, he knew a lot of people would not only dislike, but hate that he was doing so he doubled down on it and incorporated the criticism that would be thrown at him to elevate his message. He will be studied for decades, because he has captured something that only a handful of people manage to capture in a generation. Truly a master at the top of his game in his craft.

Its hilarious to see people upset about the #KendrickLamar half time show. One thing about him is that he's probably the greatest artist of our generation. Everything he has done has been layered with meaning, and his performance is something to be stuidied. The same people that say that we're becoming dumber, will criticize a show for being too lame.

I'll grant that it wasn't a showy performance, but everything, from the fact that he anticipated and leaned into the fact that people are going to want to hear the hits, and his decision to play newer music, to the symbolism of the flag, prison, Uncle Sam. All of it was calculated in a way that only a great artist can do. It was political commentary done excellently. Usually I'm a fan of keeping politics out of art, but this wasn't propaganda, this was artistic exploration.

RFK Jr is right. Every time I've left the US for an extended period of time, I've lost noticeable weight. Every time. There is something in our food, our kids are paying the price.
