Listened to the pod. I don’t like Hans. I think he is immature, paranoid, egotistical and generally unlikable. I think that Pete kind of sees a “being screwed by the mainstream media” person and doesn’t push back or dig deeper into some of Hans’ wild claims and poor reasoning. That being said, it was nice to hear him in a more long form medium. People are complex and Hans has put in a ton of work and has some grounded outlooks on the world, I too hate people being late and being obsessed with technology. I am also not convinced he cheated in the game against Magnus, so if he didn’t, it really does suck for him. Just like you want to put yourself in positions to be lucky and have things go your way, I think Hans did something similar in the opposite direction- cheating online, making ridiculous claims about how good he was and being straight up mean to people. I hope that Hans can continue to grow in chess and as a person!
