I'm less knowledgeable in robotics than you are, and your points are valid.
But I do follow a little bit the topic, mostly as a layman, and from what I understand, for complex motions, use of training models is a solution.
@nprofile1q... explains that there's also a lot of bullshit spout by VC, which I wasn't aware of.
So probably you should listen to him rather than me (though he agrees that there are valid uses for AI in the field).

AFAIK AI (machine learning) is actually going to help achieve some breakthroughs in robotics.
How much of a breakthrough, I don't know, but that is one field where AI (not LLM) is actually able to deliver.

AI discourse is made by marketers so it's bullshit, but as a mathematician you certainly understand that there are actual progress that is made on the underlying tech ?
