Thinking I'm going to be changing to a different account name. Same server, but a different account name. I've long used my name on various accounts and my own website but with things as they are in the US I'm taking steps to reduce the most obvious exposure and easy access to my identity.
I've felt very conflicted on this. On the one hand, I've always been open about my activism and beliefs online and in my community. But having my name hard-coded as the actual account name that I can't easily change seems like an unnecessary risk given where things are in the US and where they seem to be headed. What risk is acceptable?
That said, I have no illusions about being anonymous. That's not my intent. I've been publishing on the internet for nearly 30 years. I still have a blog that I intend to keep. But I have been taking measures to gradually scrub my name, location, etc from the most obvious places just as an added layer of obfuscation.

For better or worse, it seems increasingly likely that the US as the dominant power on the planet is coming to a close. I'm not sure what to say about China being that new power but the US has been blocking climate progress for decades and under the current regime it's clear US policy is now a double down in the wrong direction.
Between increasing climate related disruption and geopolitics and economics, just, shit. This just looks like an intensifying disaster for the planet.

We use the crisis they are causing against them. We use their attempt to subjugate us against them. Like our loving brothers and sisters in MN we extend our empathy outward, we embrace one another and build action based in solidarity and love.
Our future should not be about what we can tuck behind a picket fence and in a two car garage in a comfortable middle class suburban home.

Our future is our ability to confront our long history of genocide, subjugation, white supremacy and injustice. This crisis is an opportunity for transformation. They started something that we should finish.

- Immediate cancellation of contracts with any military, intelligence, or security agency in any nation
- Immediate cancellation of contracts with ICE and DHS specifically
- Unionization where none exists
- Agreements to worker and citizen advisory councils to begin a process of auditing and oversight. What??? Yeah. Push it as far as possible from the exclusive focus on profit at the expense of the public good to a worker-citizen based process.

I would suggest proton.me or tuta.com. Both offer a free account. Proton also offers an encrypted cloud drive service with document features, similar to google docs. Both are based in Europe and are privacy focused. Both offer fairly low-cost email plans for around $4/month. Between the two I'm using Proton a bit more and will be using them in the future.
