alright, Milwaukee! #BeatLA!

we all knew this one was coming

Round and round we go: Trump claimed Sunday that Russia and Ukraine agreed to an "energy ceasefire" and will halt attacks on each other's energy facilities. Zelensky tells Axios the announcement "was news for me. But if Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree." https://www.axios.com/2026/10/11/trump-russia-ukraine-energy-ceasefire-zelensky

I know the common critical view, if not the consensus, is that Digger is overacted and self-indulgent, but I confess that I enjoyed it and laughed throughout. The theater-within-a-film conceit may be getting overplayed, but again I can't complain when I'm so entertained.

The death toll from a Russian airstrike on an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia has risen to 20, including three children, regional official Ivan Fedorov says. Another 32 people were injured. https://t.me/dwglavnoe/69501

The most obvious consequence of the diesel deal appears to be that Trump will likely suspend the intelligence sharing that Ukraine needs to attack Russian oil refineries. I assume Kyiv can still manage something here without the US, but it will undoubtedly be less. https://www.ft.com/content/7fd4dffc-8adf-4ad8-9fba-333e1ced991d?syn-25a6b1a6=1

the extirpation of US sanctions against Russia's oil exports will be livestreamed on the Pentagon's website next week

I assume that folks are right to downplay the economic impact (for both the U.S. and Russia) of any diesel that today's deal manages to move, but I wouldn't minimize the other effects, eg on Trump's view of Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, Putin's confidence in outlasting sanctions, etc.

Zelensky on today's Trump–Putin diesel deal: “I think they [the Trump admin] are just using our team as a front. And that’s definitely dishonest, definitely not how partners should treat each other. And in my view, it’s a weak decision. Unfortunately, it’s a weak decision by strong partners." https://www.rbc.ua/ukr/news/slabke-rishennya-silnih-partneriv-zelenskiy-1791577078.html
