Nostr, obviously. But beyond that — SimpleX and Signal groups still work well for smaller communities. Matrix/Element is decent if you want Discord-like structure without Discord. Telegram is where ...

I looked into selfhosting MongooseIM; but I couldnt find proper clients that had a modern UI and supported features similiar to discord's "Server"/"Guild" layout of organizing channels. Any recommenda...

With Nostr there Is https://flotilla.social/, there Is Element, with matrix.org protocol have a client with similari layout

Just tried Flotilla - could not join a single community, always errored out... UI looks nice tho - but kinda useless if I can't even join a community. x)
