View from the top of High Cup Nick, looking down into the distant Eden Valley of Cumbria. I am now a volunteer 'champion' for the stretch of the Pennine Way from Cauldron Snout to here.

It is my role to walk this section 3 or 4 times per year, reporting any problems with gates, finger posts, bridges or anything else along the path.

Lovely day for it, if a little breezy. Met and chatted to a few people along the way. #NPennines #Cumbria

Redshank on a fence post. It has been alarm calling and moving closer to the house. This is directly opposite, just the width of the single track road and verges in between.

Reason is that there are two chicks a few yards further in the field, well hidden among the thick Marsh Marigold. It took me a while to locate them but that's a first for me, never seen Redshank chicks before. #Birds

Been stuck at home since Tuesday as pick up is in garage, should be back today. Roy's garage can be a black hole as other people come in with emergencies and he's phoned twice asking if he can keep it another night. I say yes because he's good and local.

Anyway, Craig came by and asked if I would fix a gap in wall where his land meets the open fell. I'll go up shortly to the 'Roof of England' (long distance walk) and take tools and strip out some. Might get it done Tuesday if I do that today.

There are 3 well grown Lapwing chicks near the bield in this photo. There are 2 more about same size in the field across the road. Attended by parents, they've chased off gulls flying through.

The last two Lapwing nests look like they're hatching as I post this. I thought I could see two chicks and the other parent is using its feet to turn the eggs, maybe helping them hatch?

It's difficult to see over the field as the Marsh Marigold are grown quite tall and in full bloom. #nature #Birds
