@nprofile1q... The problem with “AI” is that these tools are specifically training people to be lazy, which is unlikely to lead to learning anything useful. BASIC was crappy, but at least it was an approachable gateway to better things, and for all its faults it was still deterministic, so you were learning a skill instead of just gambling…
@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I believe the BASIC on the Enterprise 128 is quite advanced, it is even indented like a modern language, plus the hardware is very Amiga-like for an 8-bit machine. It’s a pity they took too long to get to market and sank along many others.
I thought ugly pixel art scaling filters are a modern scourge, but I just found out that LucasArts used to apply them in the Macintosh ports of their adventures to boost their perceived resolution.
Looking at the screenshots, they would have achieved much better results by simply hand-crafting high-resolution variants for all in-game text and leaving everything else alone.

@nprofile1q... The mystery was complete in the beginning; you wouldn’t even realise this was an apocalyptic story for a long time. I presume the title itself served as a deliberate misdirection, and it certainly worked on me.

I just discovered the fact that #SimCity 2000 could be played without an SVGA card. Specifically, the Windows version could work in 640×480 with a custom 16-colour palette, and it looks surprisingly good!

These comparisons of various games on early (pre-NES) consoles are quite interesting. The #atari2600 holds up surprisingly well against the much more powerful machines that came out years later, considering its absurdly low specs.

I just found out that somebody is selling cartridge versions of my Stunt Car Racer port for the #commodore #plus4 as well as other homebrew titles. I don't particularly mind it myself – it's flattering in a way –, but I wonder how my fellow developers feel about it.
