the i.delta.chat server is not required nor used at all for handling and establishing connection between contacts, it is just a cosmetic fallback to show some hint in the browser when the person opening the link doesn't have the app installed yet and to make the link clickable when sharing in other apps since custom schemes are not usually linkified by apps and social media

@nprofile1q... not really, the only thing the server is needed for is if you want to open the link in the server, they take down the server now then the links are not worse than signal's sgnl:// links or telegram's tg:// links

in fact, the delta chat invite links are just openpgp4fpr:// links, if you go and open such a link in the browser you will see that the "open chat" button contains the actual openpgp4fpr:// link and you could just copy and share that or just share the QR image

how cool it would be if you could have your own small private social network for a group of friends or for the family only... but it would be too annoying and complex to have to buy a domain and VPS ...

but it would be too annoying and complex to have to buy a domain and VPS and host your own social network then your family have to register there etc.

well I have good news for you! you can have your own private social network easily without needing to host any server! right inside your group in #ArcaneChat or #DeltaChat it is called #PixelSocial and works #p2p

and even if the Delta Chat project died today, you would be able to keep using your #chatmail relay servers (or even just classic email servers) while when #Session goes down it seems the app will pretty much stop working properly, that doesn't sounds really decentralized

the takeaway is: millions of dollars were dropped into Session, at the end of the day you got a huge machinery that can't even continue without thousands of more dollars being burned every month, is it worth it???

all that money should have gone to more sustainable projects like #DeltaChat, Delta Chat relay servers are SUPER CHEAP to run and require near zero maintenance
