I'm thinking out loud here.

Maybe instead of trying to reinvent #decentralization from scratch, we should start with what's still decentralized today and expand from there.

What's still decentralized?

- We can still exist across multiple platforms instead of living inside a single app.
- We choose which parts of our lives to share in different places.
- A lot of our data still lives locally: notes, photos, diaries, private chats, files, and everything else that isn't entirely owned by a centralized service.

What if we treated all of that as the foundation?

One idea is to build a local personality index (name TBD): a model that runs on your own device and continuously learns your preferences from the data you choose to expose to it—not by uploading everything to some company's servers, but by processing it locally.

That personality index could become your recommendation engine for #Nostr, surfacing content that's actually relevant to you without relying on a centralized algorithm.

The longer-term vision is even more interesting. Structure your local data, place an agent on top of it, use access-control primitives so you decide what the #agent can access, and let these personal agents communicate over Nostr as a peer-to-peer network.

Instead of platforms owning your identity, your data, and your social graph, your local agent becomes the interface. Discovery, networking, and collaboration become emergent properties of a decentralized network of people—not centralized services.

Just a rough idea, but it feels like a more practical path toward expanding decentralization than trying to replace everything at once.

We have 9+ examples of govts cutting spending in crises & not hitting recession. Canada (1995-97) didn't just avoid it—it outdid all the G7 in GDP, unemployment, deficits, inflation over the next decade.

Krugman calls them exceptions which were due to low interest rates and/or net export booms, but as it turns out those two so-called "exceptions" actually came from slashing spending! Bob also covers why Hoover’s 1932 tax hike (not cutting spending) tanked the economy.

Finally he goes through different scenarios to see if all these still hold, from today's floating exchange rate's system up until a 100% reserve #Bitcoin standard.

#Mises explains:

"The abolition of slavery and serfdom is to be attributed neither to the teachings of theologians and moralists nor to weakness or generosity on the part of the masters…. Servile labor disappeared because it could not stand the competition of free labor; its unprofitability sealed its doom in the market economy."

The logic is simple, a slave-hunting business, can not operate in a free market since they're paying the price of coercion on top of other expenses. The price of war and guarding can only be paid by the #state. and doesn't that make sense now?

In medieval Ireland, for example, a king was not the head of state but rather a crime-insurer: if someone committed a crime, the first thing that happened was that the king paid the "insurance" benefit to the victim, and then proceeded to force the criminal to pay the king in turn. Restitution to the victim’s insurance company was completely derived from the idea of restitution to the victim.
