Disney has lost Roger Rabbit
by Cory Doctorow @nprofile1q...

«Copyright is a very weak tool for protecting creators’ interests, because copyright only gives us something to bargain *with,* without giving us any bargaining *power,* which means that copyright becomes something we bargain away.

«The middlemen who control access to our audiences have all the power, so when Congress gives creators new copyrights to bargain with, the Big Five (or Four, or Three, or Two, or One) just amend their standard, non-negotiable contract to require creators to sign those new rights over as a condition of doing business.

When analysts say "businesses are demanding AI services" they mean "businesses believe they can replace workers with AI".

If AI can't replace these workers (and, in most cases, it can't) then it's a much different scenario, isn't it?

@nprofile1q... (I think?) I understand your point, but I don't agree with your initial premise. If a person wanted to say "your small change will have bad consequences down the road", they should have said so, or choose a different metaphor that doesn't compare the work of others to a malignant decease whose only point is to feed from the host until it destroys it.

I think the choice of the word "cancer" is not unfortunate, but deliberate, and it is intended to minimize any further discussion and infuriate part of the community, which may not be a CoC violation itself, but surely saying "R4L is a cancer" fails *all* the Linux CoC goals:
