AI Generated Font Of The Day is boring but not actually terrible: https://github.com/narennaik/sutra-mono/

"The brief was one sentence long: Smooth with a flow between the characters. Nothing unessential. Rounded, and feeling complete, like San Francisco."

To me that's three sentences, and the result isn't like San Francisco, but outlines are kind of reasonable, and being a monospaced font makes some things a lot easier.

Against The Machine is really crystallizing my thinking on AI - specifically how its promise of speed and efficiency turns work into a race, and one where the only way to win that race is to pay more money to the owners of The Machine for access to more powerful models.

I know there's a bunch of #autism / #adhd / neurospicy people on here: anyone have any experience of Auditory Processing Disorder? It's becoming more obvious to me that I'm finding it hard to understand people, particularly in busy environments or when they speak quickly, but I'm aceing all the standard hearing tests so I'm starting to wonder if I have APD. I know there's overlap between neurodivergence and APD, and while I'm not diagnosed with anything it wouldn't surprise me. OTOH it has only started becoming a problem the past few years. Any adjustments which worked for you, experiences getting diagnosed etc., would be helpful to hear. (Ha, ha)

@nprofile1q... And professors set reading for their students for different reasons: sometimes to inform, sometimes to critique. You can't tell which is which from a book list. A random reading a syllabus just gets a notion that This Is What Those Darned Liburuls Are Exposing Our Precious Children To.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... There's a magical ethics lesson in Tesh that has more depth and better pedagogy than all of Hogwarts. Eldest has my copy so I can't quote it, but it's about consent in demon exorcism. What if the possessed person is unconscious? A medical emergency? A child? Lacks capacity to consent? Consent can be bypassed in emergencies but clearly requires sentience and will. It slowly dawns on the class: Wait, aren't *demons* sentient and willful...?

Tesh also got me back into reading Diana Wynne Jones who, unlike R—, also has a great sense of humour. nos...
