@David Chisnall (*Now with 50% more sarcasm!*) Yes, metadata could be reduced in #xmpp but at least there is no single instance which gathers all the metadata like for centralized messengers. Also the ability to run your own server helps to reduce the amount of metadata stored on strangers servers and increases digital sovereignty. Of course, there are trade offs everywhere but for me it is important to avoid American silos which seemed to be in the interest of the thread starter. @MrTuxracer
