Now that I have more black acrylic (3mm thickness), I decided I'd try for a deep engraving. On the plus side, this is _definitely_ deep. On the minus side, I got significant warping. Is this just me trying to carve too deep into too-thin material? I ended up doing about five passes, plus a cutout.

Anyone who knows about #LaserEngraving or #LaserCutting - I would love some advice!

More laser experiments today, this time involving varying the laser power using a depth map. Big thanks to @nprofile1q... for finding this tool that can convert an STL into a depth map (either SVG or PNG): https://kbralten.github.io/STL_PNG_Depth/index.html

The black acrylic worked the best I think. Will be fun to test more deep engraving when I get some more (which should be tomorrow). Also need to figure out how to stop discolouration on the wood, especially on the deeper one.

Continuing my laser adventures with black acrylic. I found a vendor selling cast acrylic near me, and asked for an offcut for testing. They supplied me some 6mm material, which I didn't think my 22W laser could blast through, but it did.

This stuff engraves _amazingly_. Definitely gonna get more of that!

The stray squares there are me being not-too-careful with alignment and positioning.

I am now the proud (?) owner of a 22W diode laser cutter and engraver. Of course, I had to try it out on the main thing I love.

As an aside, Rayforge is 100% the best option for lasering things on Linux today. It's still rough around the edges, but the dev working on it is _very_ responsive and helpful.

Looking forward to making more stuff with it. My next thing will be bamboo ply or black acrylic, whichever I can source first.

Open source, Linux native, supports every printer UVTools does (which is most printers), and actually seems to have a good feature set. I don't _love_ how you do supports on it, and I haven't tested extensively, but it's at least a start.

Qidi 'engineering' strikes again. How on _earth_ do you get a leak like that with an integrated nozzle-heatbreak combo? Keep in mind, this is the original stock hotend assembly.
