Even if we get into the US specifics, I bet most soldiers don't want to die protecting Lockheed Martin or Raytheon, or in overall for the oil companies lobby.

For example, the current Iran conflict is just stupid, every single expert knew how bad idea was that. Even a terrible leader like Obama knew that, and here we are, sending people to die for Israel, our greatest ally who is happy with the current situation of not being involved directly while killing Christians in Lebanon.

Volunteers or conscription, same rules apply here. Soldiers with honor don't join the army to get killed overseas as a PMC, not even those who join exclusively for free education and housing.

There is nothing patriotic about being killed defending another nation
