After 1000s of volunteer hours the Eagle Creak Trail is open, the damage from December storms repaired.

It's log out season and the hiking groups are full of pictures of volunteers with the PCTA, PNTA, WTA, and OTK, doing hard labor to clear trails.

I just learned about the Salmonberry Trail, an effort to connect Banks, OR to the coast via 82-mile trail. 21,000 volunteer hours so far.

USFS just fully opened FS23 between Trout Lake and Randall for the first time in years.

Repairs to the 2023 slide that damaged SR504 in the Mt St Helens National Monument started a couple days ago.

I spent a lot more time in 2025 on Lawetlat'la (Loowit or Mt St Helens) than ever before and came to love it's wildly diverse landscapes. In honor of its 1980 eruption, here are some of my favorite photos from inside the blast zone.

In summer I stretch and grow and live and feel the sun in full.
In fall I drink deeply the wind and gather myself, storing strength away in deep cellars.
In winter I endure cold, rain, and snow. With the trees I bear and bend against nature's might.
And in spring, the flowers remind me why.

than in the philosophies of men
