The Activitystream contains structured data and this means we have a common standard all apps/hosts can use and then we can give the control to users and hosts on what they share and that will be determined by how much they will be paid. @nprofile1q...

6/7 - Podcasters Share their Data

We have also built a model to allow Podcasters to choose what activity they want to share externally. So they can choose plays, listen time, follows etc.

They can control all of this in their admin dashboard. The Data is exported as an ActivityStream.

5/6 - Plays, Listen Time

In The TrueFans admin dashboard the podcaster can see an aggregated total of their podcasts plays, listen time and they can also see this by individual episode.

TrueFans can even show you all the first party data from other listening apps. As a bonus we also have a method to block the bots using the OPWAG bots list.

4/6 - Users Control

The TrueFans user can control what they publish in their settings. So they can choose what social media platforms to share their activities. They can choose what activity verbs and they can choose the percentage of their play activity before the activity is published.

This individual user activity is also shared with the podcast creator and aggregated so the podcaster can see their total plays, listen time and percentage completed

Unfortunately, I missed my favourite show live. Instead I listened to the recording and just screamed at my phone as I heard them discuss the idea and then talk about how to share data by reinventing the wheel.

TrueFans already measures every listener's activity - play, follow, share etc.

We use a W3C standard called ActivityStreams which is structured XML data

We show this in the users profile. The users can hide this or choose what activity verbs they want public.

The idea is for apps share first party data with Podcast Index and then they will aggeregate this data and act as a data broker for advertisers to buy data and then share the value back to the apps.
