pkgsrc on a LFS system Sometimes when dealing with Linux/Unix software there comes a moment when you find wonderfully detailed documentation, written by someone who knows everything about the subject by heart, and therefore doesn't bother explaining some of the most basic things about the software in question.

Glimmermark session 63: oh boy, they nearly got themselves a TPK. They ventured under the goblin castle again, fought with a few elemental culists, then descended into the grand temple of the elemental princes. The local vicar was a bit of a challenge with flying boots and all that, but they smashed their way down the stairs anyway. Then the priests of the air temple arrived, and the leader was a harpy. As soon as they heard the harpy song they all got charmed.

today I am trying to get the NetBSD package manager pkgsrc running on my Linux from Scratch system.
In theory this shouldn't be a problem, but I stumble into the usual problem of the documentation assuming you know everything the author knows.

also most of it assumes you use CVS as a version control system, a program that doesn't seem to have been updated since 2008, was removed from BLFS after version 7.7, and does not compile on my system at all.

one game that I even have but never managed to play was Vampire the Masquerade 1st edition.
Mind you, I played Vampire of later editions, and I never really liked it. The later splatbooks of 1st edition, and especially Chicago at Night, pushed the whole game line into success. but I am wondering about that early game where Vampire society was largely undefined, the players were thin-blooded and powerless young ones, and they had to stick to the cities because outside the Garou lurked.

I am quite impressed with bashblog. It's a bash script. It takes markdown-formatted text and creates a static blog site out of it, including rss feed. You can style that via css.

I now have one running on https://grenzland.club/~kyonshi/ and it doesn't even look bad (the css is from https://tilde.team/~karx/blog/make-bashblog-look-the-way-you-want-it.html )

lfs project: uninstalled the sysvinit files, replaced them with runit. works.

now to be fair the newest and most well-laid out script system I found for lfs was vibe-coded, and as expected (after looking at them) it didn't work. I fell back to using something someone posted in the early 10s and that worked with barely a hitch.

true to form the new vibe-coded Epic Launcher crashes when I do such obscure tasks as claiming games.

I guess it was vibe-tested as well and all the tests came back a-ok
