@Coral 😷

Friendly tech and bird nerd; also a librarian, engineer, & data munger, currently doing web dev and systems integration for a library.

Looking for a remote position that's friendly to AI-free workflows and to building accessible solutions, ideally some kind of public good or non-profit.

#CovidIsntOver so mask up!

they/them, but it isn't always safe to say so

I have air filters for allergens, so I'm ready to filter smoke

I already mask (N95+) when I leave the house. You really want a mask that takes out chemicals too, so I have two of those in boxes, but an N95 beats nothing, hands down

If we have to leave, I have carriers for the birds. My car title and passport and other essentials + cash are in a fire safe I can grab. My purse is on the way out. I know where my laptop is

I should put spare clothes in the car. And meds in the fire safe, I guess

It was *already* unethical to hold in-person conferences. I've been arguing as much since 2014, so it isn't *just* about the ongoing pandemic that permanently damages the immune, circulatory, nervous,...

It's also a bad use of fossil fuels when there's the option to meet online.

We don't need to be flying all over the place to gather, when there's a perfectly good option that takes *significantly* less energy (and much of the energy used for online meetings can come from renewables, unlike jet fuel).

I need the library field to please catch up with and accept reality: in-person conferences in the US can't be a thing anymore. (Or outside the US, if you want Americans there.) Masked men from three-...

We simply can't all attend, some because of disability, some due to caregiving responsibilities, some (increasingly many) because their institution won't fund travel.

Masked men from three-letter agencies are grabbing whomever they like and throwing them into concentration camps. Ours is not a safe border to cross anymore.

Redoing my intro on my shiny new instance:

Hi, I'm Coral (NOT Carol)

In real life I love #birds, #coffee, crafting, cozy video games, biking, reading, and gardening. I have a spouse, two #cockatiels, and two #budgies

At work I'm into #tech, #UX, #a11y (don't talk to me about DEI without the A), and #teaching. I'm a librarian, electrical engineer, and former #CommunityCollege prof, now doing #WebDev via #RemoteWork for an #academic #library
