I have high hopes that Trump will be able to turn America back on more reasonable track.

But how would the Europe save itself?

About smartphones.

I have been looking for non-google, non-apple phone for daily use that would run reasonable amount of software.

Fairphone 4/5 with Ubuntu mobile
Volla with Ubuntu or Volla OS or Ubuntu
Pixel 6-8 with Graphene OS
Xperia 10 III with Sailfish OS

I paritcularly dislike the Unfairphone (not actually repairable as older models don't have part availability)
Also Pixel phones raise red flags as these are developed by google.

Is there any other alternatives?

There's always Purism's #Librem5 Liberty Phone edition if you can afford it. It might be able to run almost anything on #Flathub. Forget about camera and calling though :) And you'll need a couple of extra batteries

Some Qualcomm 845-based Xiaomi with DivestOS, or anything that can fully run PostmarketOS (non-Android, pure Linux).

I just finnished reading "Ink black heart" by Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling. A hefty 1000 pager. I must say that I much enjoy the Strike series storylines. They increasingly have a similar vibes than Agatha Chtisties novels.

However with this book, i did notice some themes that I think have not been apparent in previous five books in the series:

- Far right extermism. Far right secret group consists purely of white men, most of which are misogynistic&violent&dum. They mainly do social media operations and send parcel bombs.

- Bitcoin - The far right extermist group is called "the halvening". Bitcoin is used in the book only to buy illegal stuff from darknet. Usage bitcoin is talked like it is really shady "dark magic" that only true criminals know how to do.

- Twitter and online precence. Twitter is shown as a place where most of the people maliciously hide behind nicknames. Most of the content spread is hateful or toxic some way. Peoples online identies are ruthlessly stolen, and the people private information is represented as easily explorable and exploitable in the internet.

I am not happy on how the things are represented, but I guess this represents the state of public discourse nowdays.

I’ve been reading these as well. Book three started and can recommend so far. The takes on government spending placed throughout have been entertaining.

a well dressed mid aged man walks into a KFC, struggles for a minute and asks the clerk in a decent manner if he can order by the bar instead of scanning QR, clerk tells him there's coupon if he order...

Some of my european friends failed to get P
pizza from pizza hut at their visit at china. They had no means to get Wechat as foreginers. They told that cash is basically non-usable in big cities. If someone takes it, they usually won't be able to give change.

Is west following the same route?

idk if the west is following the same route but cbdc or cbdc-like supervised financial system is fully unfolding in China. btw every store has the obligation to accept fiat cash despite in reality 99.99% people pay by scanning QR codes, customers can report whoever wouldn't accept it, there are sti...
