If you share a link on Mastodon, give us at least one sentence that gives us an indication where it leads to. "Wow..." or "This is scary" is not going to make me click on an unknown mystery link. Even if it comes from someone I follow who usually talks about interesting topics.

I think most instances let you type 500+ characters. Surely it will be enough for one or two words that identify the subject.

The chance of breaking google's hold over online searches was always slim. Them doing it themselves is fantastic.
