• Report police stations as a road event.
• The altitude readout is back on the MapLibre home screen
• Battery. A round of fixes for where the app was wasting power:
– map markers are built only when they can be on screen — before,
every one in range was rebuilt on every camera frame, off-screen
ones included, well over a thousand a frame in a city
– the map no longer re-renders when it hasn't visibly moved, and stops
animating entirely while the app is in the background, so
navigating with the screen off and just the voice is finally cheap
– the notification, compass and map-data downloads no longer run
when nothing can use them
• Navigation copes better with long routes and routes that double back.

They're published on nostr as kind 1315 and 1316. Osm doesn't see anything,it's all pseudonymous (linked to your nostr npub) and stored into relays for the amount of time relays decide to.

Roadstr v0.5.9 is out — a security hardening release. 🔒
An independent audit turned up a few real issues, now fixed:
• Favorites sync was auto-publishing on every edit for anyone signed
in with Nostr, with no separate opt-in despite the app claiming it
was optional. Now off by default — a real "Sync automatically"
toggle in Settings.
• Logging in used to publish a profile-visibility event even if you
never touched the setting, tying your key to "uses Roadstr" for no
reason. Only publishes now if you actually chose public visibility.
• A relay outage could get hammered every ~1.25s forever instead of
backing off — fixed the reconnect logic.
• Capped a few unbounded growth paths in the Nostr event stream that a
flood of throwaway identities could have abused.
• Store listing no longer claims things that weren't true (GPS
handling, offline routing, license).

I think that maybe echnically it could be possible and probably smart people already did that.. But it depends on the actual HW, if it has an ARM SoC and runs Android/Linux already, in principle you could port something like LineageOS like you would do to a phone.
But shit could hit the fan when we're talking hw support: bootloader unlocking, kernel/device tree, GPU/display drivers, audio, touchscreen, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi etc I highly doubt that manufactures feel like sharing their stuff and dumping all the blobs of all the hw it's a project on it's own.

New: "Avoid unpaved roads" — a routing preference that steers you away
from OSM-tagged tracks and dirt roads whenever a paved way exists.
Comes straight from a field report of a near-crash on a routed dirt
track — applied automatically to every route once you turn it on, and
always honest that it's a best-effort steer, never a guarantee.
Also in this release:
• Road reports made with no signal now queue and publish automatically
the moment you're back in coverage — no more losing a report because
the spot that needed it had no bars.
• Settings can be opened mid-navigation now, without stopping the trip.
• Off-route recalculation no longer boxes you into a U-turn after a
deliberate detour.
• "Recalculate" after a traffic-jam alert actually avoids the jam now.
• Fixed Bluetooth music/podcasts staying paused after voice guidance.
• Fixed GPS silently giving up after a location-provider hiccup.

Roadstr v0.5.7 — new look 🎨
Got tired of that flat material3 UI. So a new map design with a new collapsible home dashboard and consistent frosted-glass panels across the bottom bar, navigation HUD, route planning and search.
Also simplified the theme picker: dropped the "modern" gradient variants, keeping the four classic Nostr/Bitcoin themes (light and dark) sharp and consistent. If you'd picked a modern one, you're moved to its closest classic counterpart automatically.
Also fixed music/podcast stopping after an instruction came up.

Roadstr v0.5.5 is out 🚸
Crosswalks and speed bumps now show up on the map at their exact position — same OSM sources OsmAnd+ draws them from.
Also fixed how search results are ranked: results actually matching your query are now sorted by pure distance from you instead of getting reshuffled by minor wording differences between a franchise's own branches. And if you type a city name at the end of a search, results actually in that city now get prioritized over merely closer ones.
Plus a couple of route-planner/map-interaction fixes: two-point planning now works without a live GPS fix, and long-press "report event here" is back for an arbitrary spot on the map.
