I know Marble Zone gets a lot of hate and I understand why (the level design being the main issue), but I always loved the aesthetic of it.

@nprofile1q... That's kind of wild! This is my favorite level in the original Sonic game, specifically because of the level design.

I never knew that it was disliked.

The level really stood apart from many other Sonic levels. The way you start on the surface and snake around back and forth underground until you eventually emerge elsewhere on the surface was really cool.

Not only that, but the small puzzle elements that stopped you in your tracks were interesting. Like the section of the level where you have to push the block onto the button to raise the one platform.

The design really shows that while Sonic was fast and had attitude, the gameplay was not always about speed.

@nprofile1q... I think your last paragraph here really drives home something important... Being able to enjoy both old and new and how your joy can be fuller because of that.

There is a guy that I work with who is a big movie and video game guy, yet he's always complaining that all the movies and games coming out these days are terrible and he's not looking forward to anything.

I'll tell him, "Dude, if you would broaden your scope. Movies come from all over the world and there is a TON of awesome looking stuff coming out that I'm excited about. Same thing with games if you start looking into the indie stuff."

He doesn't want to hear it though. He just wants to be grumpy and reminisce about nostalgic times...

Before Joel Schumacher single handedly destroyed the Batman franchise that Burton and Keaton built, he directed this excellent cult classic that has aged like a fine wine. It’s still a powerful film...

@nprofile1q... I haven't seen this film in ages, but I loved it back in the day. I had no idea that all of these years it was directed by Joel Schumacher. That's... quite the revelation. Haha!

Also, don't forget to follow it up with the Blaze Bailey era #IronMaiden song. A perfect compliment to the film!

I downloaded the #steam demo of The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales.

First impressions are really positive. The graphics are great, the music is fantastic and the combat is satisfying.

I'm playing it on the #steamdeck and it runs great.

I haven't completed the demo yet but I'm a couple of hours in. At some point, when Square decides to remove #denuvo I will be picking this up.

If you enjoy the old school Zelda or Ys games then I say give it a shot!

Recently I have been toying around with a lot of the old #PocketPC #GPS stuff.

There are a variety of different ways to connect to a GPS. Some connect via the Compact Flash slot, some are SDIO, some Bluetooth and others through a physical serial cable.

You also have to decide on what GPS software that you want to use and then find compatible maps.

I'm still figuring things out and it is quite finicky but when it works it is surprisingly decent!

@nprofile1q... That was a great write-up!

I never really cared for donkey Kong country. I've played a little bit of it but it never really clicked with me, so I only know this song through hearing it on YouTube.

It's amazing though. It's so ethereal and evokes such a sense of loneliness. I feel that the Ecco the Dolphin games also have some very ethereal and lonely music, but the SNES sound chip really shines with the DKC track and makes it something truly special.

I have a couple of 3 1/2 floppy disks that have some old drivers that I need. I'm having some issues with the disks and I have had no luck sourcing them online.

I'm not having great luck extracting them with my USB disk drive. Hopefully the disks are still good. I'm going to try an old XP laptop that has a built-in drive when I get the time.

I also want to image these to #archive them. What's the best way to go about this other than a greaseweasle?

Is #WinImage still recommended?

@nprofile1q... This is awesome!

I have used Matrix on occasion for years but it's so hard to search for stuff and I never had any luck finding a video game group on there.

HUGE thanks to you for setting this up!

These days I don't know how much I would actually use this (Mastodon is more my jam) but its great to have options and you can definitely count on me to check in from time to time!
