Various projects on the open social web are working towards private data, whether that's @nprofile1q... getting funding for adding E2EE, Lemmy's upcoming 1.0 release featuring private communities, or Bluesky's work on expanding atproto with permissioned data.

Bounded communities with private data using open protocols sound quite like @nprofile1q... however.

I'm taking a closer look, as this comparison turns out to be quite a lot stranger than expected

- @nprofile1q... has launched as a social webbrowser, with publications like The Verge and Wired already onboard

@[email protected] I'd say a protocol handler would be one small step in making this better handled. The friction with a global "share to the fediverse" button is the instance chooser. Not knowing what your home instance is is a major sticking point. A protocol handler could allow you ...
