#BandcampFriday always arrives and I'm paralyzed with indecision because I have like 250+ things bookmarked in my wishlist, but I never quite know which things to get.

I tend to prefer colorful #vinyl editions of things over all else, and not every artist offers that.

I tend to prefer US based artists, not out of any particular patriotism, but because shipping vinyl overseas is expensive AF.

Even US based vinyl is getting to be a tough sell though. Even on the low-end it's usually about $23 + $7 shipping. I better really love that album to shell out $30+ for it.

someone help me pick! πŸ˜…

It's mostly #Shoegaze #Synthpop #DesertRock #StonerRock #PostRock stuff.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Father in law never really laid it out to mother in law that she is incapable of taking care of herself. So she is under the delusion that she's fine and he was just being nice doing all the stuff for her for the past few years.

Now wifey and I are faced with giving her a 1-2 gut punch of telling her she's not as independent as she thinks she is, all while she grieves her husband... and we have to keep doing it over and over again cuz she barely remembers the conversation several minutes later.

She thinks she can drive.
She thinks she can handle taking her meds.
She thinks she can handle her finances.

She can barely remember instructions for a few minutes.

@nprofile1q... Definitely not a singer.

The current plan is: get her a temporary personal care assistant here in Vegas, fly back to Minneapolis, find her an assisted living apartment in MN ASAP, fly back here, get her and some amount of stuff moved to MN, then fly back here again to get the house prepared for sale, then... adapt to the new lifestyle of having her local near is us.

This is complex. Reminds me of the fox, the goose, and the corn.

@nprofile1q... No, she's pretty much always been like this as long as I've known her. (15 years or so). She's always been obsessed with money concerns and death. It's incredibly wearing to be around.

This just feels like it's accelerated her cycle because father-in-law's not around to interrupt her/change the subject.

I'm fairly certain she's somewhere on the autism spectrum, further exacerbated by a stroke a few years ago.

I wish she had some sort of joyful hobby she could focus on. She plays piano, but I'm not sure she actually enjoys playing the piano. πŸ€”

Suddenly being a personal care provider for my mother-in-law with extreme memory issues is simultaneously fascinating and frustrating.

I can't help but compare this to the movie _Memento_. Not that she's forgetting who she is, or where she is, but her mind is still very inconsistent with what she can remember. Often she forgets something she just said, or where she put something she was just holding 5 minutes ago.

It's fascinating to see what someone's "default" thought cyles are.

She is _constantly_ defaulting back to money as the thing she thinks about. How much something costs. How much something is worth. How much she has to pay for some perceived future expense. She behaves like she lived through the great depression, but she's been living a very comfortable lifestyle for 30+ years.

Her 2nd default thoughts are about people who died. Family, friends, acquaintances. Sometimes thinking she needs to talk to someone who is long passed.

And then finally the cycle comes back to grief over my father-in-law.

My father in law died suddenly on Friday. I'm now out helping get things in order at my mother in law's house. She is incapable of taking care of herself, due to memory and mobility issues.

I keep thinking of something I heard years ago about how children under 5 may talk a lot, but nothing they say actually matters. "That dog is brown! I saw a truck!" Etc etc

But with my mother in law's memory situation it's like 90% of what she says is mostly unimportant musings, and that final 10% is extremely important things like if she took her medication, or the password to the banking, or the name of a doctor/lawyer/etc. all of which are suddenly very important and need verification. πŸ˜“
