#LifeLog 3
2010->present day.

So we sold up everything, bought a patch of land with the money, lived in a caravan on it for a while before having a simple house built.

What could go wrong? Probably a lot, and we were lucky that what went wrong was not too serious. Integrated into small village life (pop:3000) and put down some roots. Made some friends, went to lot of fiestas, and ate a lot of paella.

When we ran out of money, we trusted in the universe to provide, and it showed us the way - picking and selling olives. We picked up bits of work here and there, and kept our heads above water, growing vegetables to save money.

After a year or four, we decided that we wanted to meet 'more interesting' people, and this the universe again duly provided. These new inputs into our lives fashioned our current way of life. We 'get by' on very little money, we do not 'complica la vida' unnecessarily, and are completely surrounded by nature, in an olive finca that has gone wild and chemical-free for the last almost 20 years.

It is a rewarding way of life, tough at times, but something we are incredibly grateful for. We feel blessed to be able to live here. It is not easy, and it is definitely not for everyone, but we have become modern-day peasants.

Life log #2
1990 - changes on the horizon.

The selfish hedonism was never going to last for long. Aged 30, there was a growing dissatisfaction with the way I was living my life, and an increasing confidence there was ‘more’ out there.

An encounter with a shaman whilst on a far East trip forced me to consider that the status quo could not be maintained. Changes were a-foot. Not of my own making.

Shortly thereafter, in one week, I met my wife-to-be, and left my secure position of 15 years, making a giant leap into the vagaries of the universe’s plans for me.
My father never really forgave me, I think. My mother understood. It saddens me now to dive back into that time.

But with two children under 2, my parents passing was a blur. A new life arrived, far removed from the affluent lifestyles of our friends, we isolated ourselves. We played at growing food, and even had a chicken. We knew where we were going to end up.

Finished with the consumerism of our friends, we started to create the conditions for the next great upheaval. Our compasses were pushing us towards Spain and whatever it would bring.

So we sold everything and left.

In retrospect, it was a melting pot of energies, and with no clear handle on it all, we just trusted in the process. A common theme for the next episodes.

LifeLog intro...

As part of an attempted recapitulation process, I have decided to write a series of posts, mostly in chronological order. This will, I hope, serve to remind me why I did things when I did things.

It is merely a serious bit of fun, but will hopefully help me along my path. I will intersperse with excerpts from our daily chaos that is our life on a mountain.

Here goes nothing...

1985 Semi Capitalist

25 yo, single, living in small house and edging dangerously to a yuppie lifestyle.
Small import and wholesale family business which I was in the process of building up to the next level. Worked very hard for about 15 years, before I felt my mission there was accomplished.

Enjoyed a lot of travel on the company's coin (good) and also drank a lot of beer (bad), and put myself in compromising positions. From which I mostly exited unscathed. My son has inherited this luck.

Nice car, 2 dogs, and plenty of sport - no main romantic attachment and could have been called selfish at times. Actually quite a lot, but not in a bad way. Did not really upset too many people with my actions, or inactions.

Pretty much bumbling along.

Far ranging. Enjoyed it. Thank you. Approaching 20 years off- grid here - echo your tiredness - identified with the Gnostic references. Decided a while ago that we must co-create our reality and that many things (including AI) have no place in it.
A simpler life without tech - who knows. What will be, will be.
