Getting it setup and developing a comfort with it takes time. However, there is great comfort in not having backups that are independent from keys; joining those two things in generic media is ideal....

I recommend 2x Thinkpads, exactly like the guide recommends. It seems reasonable to use System76 or Framework as well. The latter allows for physical removal of networking. Secureblue further reduces attack surface over Ubuntu, although it could be argued it has recieved much less code review.

Brilliant - thanks! I looked at it a while ago and it just seemed too overwhelming to set up... But I think I'm just going to take my time and work through it methodically until its sorted and I can trust I've done it correctly. Will be nice to return to DVD/CD disk burning again like I used to do all the time in 90s/2000s too.

This obvious state-run HW wallet / self-custody attack is making me uneasy trusting any manufacturer - even though I'm using multisig.

I do like his conviction... but I think Simon Dixon is right that he's now subordinate to the FIC, even if he didn't intend that at the start. Hearing he may have ex-intel agency members on his board doesn't bode well either.
