We’re in the early stages of that curve where it still produces asymmetry. When everyone has it, it becomes meaningless. AIs outperforming AIs. It would be like an NBA player scoring 100 points in a WBNA game. Would it matter which player it was? Would we be impressed?

There is a tidal wave of AI web traffic coming to every industry, every vertical, every profession. An ocean of meaninglessness. AI is the anti-proof of work.

I used to think Bitcoin and AI was a collision of infinite value with a finite system to measure it sensibly. The real battle of consciousness will be discerning real value and imagined.

Proof of work. The idea that energy consumption and expended effort creates something worth something.

Even on X, more and more people are passing of chat created tweets as their own. It’s probably in most cases not because they are intellectually cheating- but because the battle itself obscures in each of us what “work” actually is.

As it simmers to a boil, we reach the collective realization that “work” is not a spectrum, and neither is value.

There is actual value and that value is worth something entirely different than its counterpart.

There is bitcoin and there are other forms of measuring value which at some point in the near future will mean nothing.

The awakening to proof of work is the solution to the impending crisis of meaning and that will be AIs most significant gift to humanity.

A reconnection to meaning and purpose by showing us all what those things are not.

Social media spawned the surveillance economy and later the reality where creating a reel became a serious profession for people. We're living through the birth of the Wall-E world. Where AI brainrot is just contagious enough that we either can't notice or won't call out the fact that most of us are already displaced and obsolete. We are headed towards a crisis of meaning as a species. We are meant to create and have purpose. We are meant to connect with each other in community. Life is supposed to be slow enough that we can stop and smell the roses. Reels are not human connection. They are not actual productivity. Humanity must find a new way to find the human experience in the increasingly inhuman world we inhabit. McKenna's novelty theory is playing out right now to a crescendo.

We are going to have to talk about how weird it is getting out there.

Glad you enjoyed it! The statement here is a variation of the argument that Bitcoin is not an investment because it doesn’t generate cashflow or a yield. Completely missing the point that Bitcoin has value because it is money. In the broader passage it’s obvious he thinks bitcoin is some kind of digital pet rock. Which actually for IBIT holders it actually is, so he’s not totally wrong- he’s just missing a really important part. If you only knew my hat as a cereal bowl you’d think it was crap. But then if you put it on your head you might experience an a-ha moment
