I am not a developer. I am not a great speaker and not much of a writer either. When I decided to build something in bitcoin, those were the facts I had to start from.
What I could do was design, and I wanted something that did not tie me to one place. A merch store was the honest answer to my own limitations, not a business plan.
There are already bitcoin shirts out there. I still think there are far too few. We are early, and I would rather add my part than wait for someone better suited.

Germany is open again.

On 12 August we stopped shipping to the European Union. The new packaging regulation counts a seller registered outside the EU as the "producer" in each member state it ships into, and since that day a producer without an establishment in Germany needs a paid authorised representative there. For a shop our size that did not add up, so we closed.

We said we would tell you when Germany works again, and not before.

Our fulfilment partner has taken over the producer obligations for the orders it ships to Germany, including the registration in the packaging register and the fees. We asked for written confirmation and got it.

From today Germany is back at checkout with 6.51 € flat shipping. The shipping policy, terms and FAQ are updated in English and German. You can pay with bitcoin and Lightning as before.

The other 26 member states stay closed. The regulation is unchanged, the costs still apply per country and per year, and small sellers still get no threshold. Germany works only because a company large enough to handle the paperwork handles it for us. That was our point in August, and it still is.

I spent half a year building an NFT project. Drew heaps of images, built the infrastructure, got it technically finished and running on a testnet. It would have been easy to turn that into a token or two.
Then I went to BTC22 in Innsbruck, and somewhere in those days I understood that the whole thing added nothing to anyone. I came home and dropped it. Finished, working, abandoned on purpose.
That is the most expensive lesson I have paid for, and the only one that changed what I do. I wanted to build something with actual value instead, in bitcoin. That is where this shop comes from.

I bought my first sats in May 2021. Then I bought a pile of other rubbish.
I kept reading, and the more I read the more everything drifted towards bitcoin. But I could not put the shitcoinery down that easily. I had FOMO, and underneath it something worse: I was trying to fix the mistake of not showing up earlier, and I wanted to fix it fast.
By early 2022 it was clear that trading was not going to get me there either.

Easter 2021. My brother told me about a colleague of his who had just kitted out a complete carpentry workshop, paid for with crypto profits. That was the moment I got curious.

I first heard about bitcoin in 2013, when the big darknet markets were in the news. I decided it was unimportant and moved on.
A few years later a friend told me he had bought some. I asked him what he wanted with it, and said ordering off the darknet was too risky anyway. Then I forgot about it again.
Two chances, waved away years apart. What finally got my attention in 2021 was not an argument. It was money, and not even mine.
