I'de give that up temporarily if I ever travelled to Asia..
When in Rome.. do as the Romans do, as the old saying goes.
I notice also that in JP a lot of uncooked, raw egg appears in the cuisine too. It is uncommon in American cuisine. I understand why. The chemistry of taste and flavor. That is why I would set aside vegetarianism while travelling abroad.. food is as much a part of culture as language or art.
