When I was a kid, an older relative had this big rubber band ball, about the size of a softball, and I thought it was so cool, that I started my own rubber band ball. So for years, I had this subplot...

I had a rubber band ball too when I was in high school. It got so large that it was heavy to carry. When I was about 15, a friend and saw it outside in the yard. There was a can of gas next to it since I was the lawn mower back then. We decided to see what would happen if we poured gas on it and lit it on fire. This was far enough from any structures and we had a water hose in hand, just in case.

I wish I were able to record it, but this was back in the days before cell phones. I'll never forget the awesome sound effects that it made as stretched rubber bands on the outside layer caught fire and melted. Pew pew peewwww POP pew pew.

So that would be my recommendation for anyone who has built up their own rubber band ball and wants to give it one last hurrah before saying goodbye to it. If you do it though, wear eye protection- burning rubber bands shooting in random directions is dangerous, especially where one could shoot into your eyes.
