Just because we are "white collar" doesn't mean we aren't labor, and doesn't mean the rank and file workers don't get shit on constantly.

So, for those that don't already know, I lost a significant amount of hearing years ago when I was diagnosed with Meniere's disorder. It sucks. Some days are better than others. Sometimes, I just don't pick up phone calls unless they are absolutely urgent because they will be a frustrating struggle for me. My mother has never gotten this, and her method of getting ahold of me involves calling more and more rapidly in an effort to get me to pick up. Working hearing or not, I find this incredibly frustrating, not to mention quite rude. If you've been paying attention to my timeline, you should be well aware that I find my mother's phone manners to be non-existent.

So about a week ago, my mom was calling me every 15-20 minutes, and I had been in no state to hear several hours prior, but now I was just angry.

I told her in no uncertain terms via text message to stop calling me.

She actually called me once more after that, but whatever, she did finally stop.

So I finally calmed down enough to have a rational discussion with her about this. This is what I just sent her.

Sorry to get so short with you the other day, but my hearing comes and goes anymore, and it sometimes makes speaking on the phone a real struggle which frustrates me. So I don't pick up. I see the missed call, I'll get back to you.

But this phone already feels like a leash around my neck, and when you keep on calling, and ESPECIALLY when you start calling rapidly, that leash becomes a noose, and it just shuts me down. Please stop doing it.

For those wondering why I don't send her a text message saying, "I can't talk right now." 1) I don't think I should have to, not answering the phone says that. and 2) Been there, tried that, got the t-shirt and participation trophy. She just calls back 45 minutes later, which starts the noose spiral....
