Level 0x2F, Neutral Evil, Technomage. I love UNIX systems, especially FreeBSD, and build carrier grade networks for fun and profit. I'm also a musician, historian, and a pretty decent cook. Lover of fuzzy animals of all sorts, but especially the kleptomaniacal, tube shaped ones. I have a dog named Hazard Dax of whom I will share a near endless supply of pics.

Can anyone recommend a source/brand of jeans that won't wear out in less than a year? I have a few pairs that are a decade or older, and they are just fine.

But every pair I have bought in the last several years has gone to shit inside 12 months, usually less.

Just tossed another pair into the, "yard work only" stack, because they developed holes.

Are you ready to stretch the bounds of your patience further than seems humanly possible in moments of total exhaustion? If not, you do not actually want to raise children.

@nprofile1q... This thread gets me. Kids drive me _crazy_. Kids have always driven me crazy. I am fucking terrible with kids. I absolutely never wanted any. I got sterilized at the ripe old age of 22. I grew up surrounded by younger children, learned very early on that I cannot handle children.

Almost no one in my life gets me. I'm approaching 48 years and still get told, "I can still adopt."

She was this amazing kid but it was freaking exhausting! She was ALWAYS THERE. It made me realise, really realise, that yo...

AI slop is getting _weird_.

Yesterday, I found an entire channel of a goth girl who cries over getting mocked because no one likes the heavy metal music inspired resin lamps she makes and sells.

You see the first one and think, "those are cool, people are seriously mocking her for not getting a real job?"

And then you see eight more.....

Hey #FreeBSD fam! I need an opinion.

Right now, I have a single poudriere jail that tracks 15.0-RELEASE(amd64), and I build ports from -latest. Everything in my house installs from this.

It is very handy to have a local installation source for packages when you are destroying and rebuilding jails regularly. It is faster for me, less load for the official servers.

That being said, I almost never do this for my laptops and workstations.

I am considering dropping anything graphical out of poudriere, and only building server stuff locally.

At the same time, I am considering bringing two rPis online for DNS and DHCP duty, just to reduce my power consumption. Shit is just getting expensive, yo.

So, opinions welcome here. Do I:

Run two poudriere jails:

One builds all my server stuff for amd64.
The other builds just what I need for DNS and DHCP on arm64.

And my workstations just chase FreeBSD-ports.

Or, do I do a third jail for amd64, but chase ports-quarterly? Because I cannot keep rebuilding librewolf and libreoffice every few days. They spike out the load and power consumption for over a day when either one hits an update.

I'm on the fence between the two options, thoughts?
