I used to be an hip hop/rap producer back in the days and i love sampling. I started with garageband + MIDI pad controller for chopping samples then upgraded to logic pro + akai mpk MIDI (that's been my fav set-up). I had an MPC too. Amazing experience but slowed my workflow so i sold it after a couple of years.

If you're on mac i suggest you garageband and than upgrade to logic pro. If you're on windows probably fruity loops. IMO no good solutions on linux.

One important thing: with electronic music an huge difference is made by the plugins you use in your DAW!
