@nprofile1q... so if I understand correctly: his previous record as MP (that deserves criticism) counts as an argument against him coming back to national politics...

but his mayoral record doesn't count as an argument to come back to national politics and implement same popular policies, should he become PM?

It seems to me to be a pity that Andy Burnham still feels drawn to national politics after making much of his dedication to the role of Mayor of Manchester. In a less centralised political economy, w...

@nprofile1q... hard disagree, and I say this as a Mancunian.

he's been favourablly polling ratings among all UK politicians on a national level; he was popular enough to hold Gorton & Denton had Labour's NEC not stopped him from being nominated – if anything, this only boldened people (including people living in Manchester) wanting him to come back to national politics.

he's the best antidote so far against far-right & far-left populism that is currently poisoning society.

it's truly a sight to behold: seems Polanski decided to speedrun Corbyn's leadership downfall, first on antisemitism and now on russia :angry_laugh: https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/green-mp-zack-polanski-trump-putin_uk_69ef603fe4b08330e41dd512

if this really happens, GPEW deserve it (unfortunately). I have no pity for so-called "zacktivists": elect morons for leadership, get moronic policy takes

apparently bc putin didn't express his genocidal intentions, he's... better than trump? spoiler alert for this prick: actions speak louder. russia's entire campaigns against Chechnya and Ukraine have been nothing short of genocide, and putin doesn't need to articulate it.

and if we're going to do quotations: Polanski said he would "build a relationship with putin". I'm sure though he'll deflect it like Farage deflects his connections with russia.

@nprofile1q... even in that case, I wouldn't say it's different on magnitude level. right-wing populists are being scrutinised regularly, same as left-wing populists. ofc in partisan media such as GBNews or Canary you won't see much criticism of their own allies – but that's why they're partisan.

I wouldn't say that BBC or LBC, for example, is covering up criticism or coverage of Farage's racist remarks and his policies, while they criticise only Polanski's proposals.

@nprofile1q... genuinely asking, in what sense asking tough questions about his past (incl. his previous support for austerity coalition), and confronting him about his dumb policies/stances like "I'd build relationship with Putin", are suddenly "colluding with the media's attempts to discredit him"?

or do you think covering Mothin Ali attending pro-Islamist rally is also "colluding", considering you agreed yourself GPEW response was dishonest?
