I often have to rotate my Mullvad VPN two or three times to watch a YouTube video. USA IPs usually work best in my experience.

How is Bitchat different from Briar? Doesn't it offer the same functionality?

Yes albeit briar doesn't really have users and its permissioned (requires to scan qr code to the other phone) whilst bitchat is fully open, which works better during protests etc. (bitchat is more like the old firechat, but then open source)

Got the same model! Very happy with it. Battery need to be replaced after about 2 years of use though. It barely lasts 30 min now.
