Unfortunately that is the case for every single topic. Thats not an exclusive vulnerabilty of the Bitcoin topic. That said, unfortunately the bulk of the Bitcoin discussion is made there and the dumpster fire drama is not gratuitious. It reflects the high stakes and the importance of the discussion.

Im sorry you got grilled for not having a strong opinion on BIP110. I personally think was a bit over the top. The emotions are runnng high and the mood is heated as a reflection of how truly important this dilemma is. I can't speak for everyone on this side (the pro BIP110), but just for myself, however I'll explain my feelings using "we" because I think you can mostly generalize: We are worried and upset because we are seing this beautiful thing a lot of us care so much about is getting damaged. Bitcoin the perfect money, the one thing capable of separating money and state being corrupted from within. We see spam as something that damages Bitcoin as money. We see the corruption from within Core as an insult to the History of the fights and all the work it took to build the system. We see the change in philosphy towards spam permissiveness as a dangerous mission creep that has to be corrected in order to keep Bitcoin working as the best money that it is supposed to be. We think not standing up to uproot this corruption will end up destroying Bitcoin's soul. The Bitcoin telos is crystal clear money" and the current crop of coredevs is completely detached from it. Most of them dont even believe there is a Bitcoin telos. So they're misguided priorities have no bounding philosophical princilple and they're lost to their postmodern nihilism worldview where Bitcoin can be whatever "the market" decides. so they cater to "usecases"... If this is not stopped and course corrected, Bitcoin becomes decentralized cloud file storage, THEN IN CANNOT SEPARATE MONEY AND STATE, AND IT WONT BE the world's best money. It will be inevitably get more centralized because there will be less and less nodes and it will eventually die as the one chance at freedom money for all mankind. It will live as a SOV asset, and will probably keep going up in price but it will die. It's soul will die.

So from our part this is a battle for the soul of Bitcoin and to save the most important financial tool in human history. The stakes are THIS high. So I think that's the reason why you see people getting angry towards those defending spammers and also towards those not speaking out.

Me, personally I wont grill you and call you names for not taking a stance.

Though I have to say that I think it is a failure of character to not be able to recognize how important this battle is and how big your impact can be.

Its a good observation. Its the same pattern: Self proclaimed authorities imposing its views and labeling dissent as plebslop, technically ignorants etc.

This is a good reminder that back there in xitter your speech is not yours. You are only ALLOWED to speak as long as what you say is not threatening to those who hold your leash. But as soon as your speech is dangerous to them you are silenced. Post everything here Cato. Please.
