Seems KDE's new login/session manager which is supposed to replace sddm dropped FreeBSD support and will be systemd only.

I could rant about this being a typical techbro linux move (and about fedora, as far I can see in this case) or ask on the kde discuss what's the real deal, but I am tired of this, so tired...
It is sending exactly the wrong message to other OS ports and it's why I left the GNU/Linux world. Move fast, break things...

*sigh* Ok, I should start worrying about plasma6's general direction now and slowly looking for another DE here on FreeBSD. It's not worth the struggle.

Yeah, every time I read people going "modern" here, "xy the future" there I usually just slowly shake my head smiling and just think "breathe and just don't believe the hype, mate"

Will be a different christmas for me this year.

My partner died earlier this year, my plans to go and visit my daughter, her husband and all of his family went up into smoke after I got sick on sunday and I'm still recovering. So that's that.

I could go and briefly visit my elders but chances are I could spread it to them, too.

So I will be pragmatic. I'm staying home, preparing some steamed veggies for my christmas meal, hoping my stomach doesn't hurt after that having a long walk and probl. make some tea and try a biscuit afterwards. At last I might turn on the tellly and watch some fairy tales, the last Unicorn or Astrid Lindgren's Emil/Michel and maybe check how things are at Nakatomi Tower and then call it a day.

I feel unexplicably calm. Don't feel anger, despair or dissappointment. Maybe a bit of melancholy maybe. 2025 was a difficult year in itself for me and my family. Why should christmas time be different, now.

anyway, wishing you a peaceful christmas time to all of you.

otoh I thought I reply, because there seem to be a lot of folks outside who are quick to judge and expect their own usecases to be perfect for everyone else.

The thing about apple and linux is interesting because that's a combo some of my family uses.

btw, the thing about gnome/kde able to sync with apple was new, thanks for that info. Any luck getting kde connect or gsconnect working?

Switched to latest on FreeBSD-15.0-Release now. Nice, also no hassles like on 14.3. It just works.

The weather was much better today than yesterday. No more grey in grey, no drizzle, even a bit of the sun peeking out.

So, I've been down to the beach at the mouth of the river elbe, today again getting my head clear, taking some photos and cleaning it up a wee bit.

I was (unfortunately) very succesful... Gathered a lot of washed up waste plastics. Wrappings and food boxes, a coke can but also some remnants of fishing nets. In the end it filled the whole bag I had with me.

Now for some tea and christmas cookies... 🙂
