@nprofile1q... the problem is the spice was the crux of all the metahuman tech that made up for the lack of computers, and then leto basically hoarded all the spice "for their own good." which i characterized as "state enforced poverty" because he didn't get rid of the caste system, he basically just took hierarchically dependent societies and cut them all off from fuel.
