told someone one of the worst parts of growing older is when you don't realize that when you are a smol is the only time humanity decided to innovate on things.

you become a middle-aged adult, confident not to become the old blob that only watches the same series from the 1960s forever. then the zoomers are watching DS9 because everything sucks and skyrim has been re-released for the 15th consecutive year.

:blobcatbernie: god damn it

@Pawlicker most people don't really know what the word "enclosure" is who probably should. it's exactly what the tech sector has been slowly being drug through post-dot com boom.

there's a book "technofeudalism" about it--amazon et all quietly becoming inescapable commons places (every photographer must be on instagram or doesn't exist, every product must be on amazon or doesn't exist) despite not being subject to commons-esque social regulation (amazon does what it wants and is backed by DOD money, making it relatively immune to boycotts)

i think open communication proved to be too powerful for nation states and its been a really protracted fight to revoke it without causing An Event. (i liken it to a game where controllers are trying to maximize the size of a shape without ever touching the death triangle; a shape that causes you to lose, but there is no way to know that you have found it, as intersecting it causes whoever does so to die.)

ocaml unsafe statements are pretty disciplined compared to what ended up happening later

c#/rust: :blobcatsipsweat: we might need to do this so throw in the unsafe block that completely sends everything to hell
ocaml: :neocat_sweat: we might need to do this so throw in a very specific keyword that allows exactly one type of bad behavior locally
c/nim: :comfystoner: safety is an illusion take your life in to your own hands

One of the dependencies requires 1.96 which is current release minus one. How can anybody actually use this "ecos...

saw some womens self defense video that basically amounted to burly power lifters beating up women for 30 minutes

:blobcatwaitwhat: i mean 100lb weight difference isn't going to win on a pure brawling front. you kinda have to do technical damage for that to work

@Your literal dad they can be severities of the same thing but it was a monstrous to replace named subsections with the worst of the two labels and then try to add grades on to it. nobody in public goes "i have grade 2 high functioning autism" they say "i have PTSD"

if i had to speculate why aspies aren't a huge fan of the DSM recently vs other brackets

rearrangeing the deck chairs on ADHD, ADD, whatever insertion and removal of letters, doesn't actually affect the treatment and handling.

the deck chair rearranging on schizophrenia (separating DID/MPD/BPD/general schizophrenia) is narratively problematic (so much cultural baggage already involved in tying them as the same thing) but does correspond to "these were actually not related, we appropriately separated them"

the collapse of things in to "autism" doesn't quite do the same thing. it just collapsed the high functioning group in to the low functioning group and goes "they're both bad at talking to NTs, so it must be the same thing -> same treatment" and it's not, and a lot of the backstop on this relies heavily on the "asperger was a nazi" narrative. (nevermind there was another guy who wasn't a nazi, who discovered it sooner, you could have just renamed it to that guy)

communities sort of cluster by shared experience and "highly intelligent, too literal" doesn't really share a lot of experience with "non-verbal drooling on the floor," :comfyglare:

hopefully the practitioners do or push for re-partitioning to some degree because one group the treatment is "here's social skills training to talk to everyone else" and the other is.. :gutkato_konsternita: so much more cooked
