the key with any go bag/tool kit, whether doctor bag, camping kit, etc:

- have an inventory list of what's supposed to be in there in the kit
- if you have time, check you have everything before you leave
- if you notice you need something you didn't bring, add it to that list right then
- when you get home, as soon as you can, replenish anything used, add new items

seems common sense but if you're not disciplined about it, you will inevitably run out of something you need.

i just ordered parts for using extra quiet PC fans but it's amazingly easy to really improve air quality with these.

so sad that we don't mandate one of these in every school classroom, meeting rooms, etc.

OSs are like any tool. better or optimized for some things more than others. i have used several linux distros, freebsd, etc. depending on the task.

the systemd overreach has already pushed me off some linux distros. AI slop in the kernel will push me off others.

i think you're spot on that we all need to be a bit patient with newcomers not getting some of the technical and cultural biases that various OSs are more suitable for, and go into education and evangelism, not abuse and disdain.

this is also a good opportunity to really talk about what your project goals, philosophies, and prime use cases are, along with explicitly talking about AI use, license types, etc. we all tend to avoid these but it's good to really review every few years to allow for mission, code, and reality creep.

the most obvious example of this is why i try to avoid fast food but yes, if you pay and treat your folks like shit, don't expect them to "see something, say something" or care.
