It is my 3-year cancerversary this week, so it is also time for my annual post:

💉 The HPV vaccine (gardasil) prevents the throat cancer I had, as well as many other cancers
💉 You can get it up to age 45 (although in the US your insurance may not cover it ☹️)
💉 Your kids (of all genders) should absolutely get it (insurance in the US should cover it 🙂)

I was too old for the vaccine but it would have saved me SOOooo much misery and expense if I had been able to get it.

My best gardening discovery of the last few years: Salanova lettuce. It is a head lettuce that grows in small bunches, but if you cut out the core it falls apart into "baby" lettuce pieces.

It is super easy to germinate, and holds in the heat really well without bolting or turning too bitter. I planted this head in March!

The seeds (johnnyseeds.com) are expensive but they are open-pollinated and one plant left to bolt will produce hundreds of seeds for next year. A++

I have an older grey hen who is pretty and friendly but who hasn't laid an egg in two years. I keep her around because she is pretty and friendly.

Much to my surprise she laid an egg this morning! For some values of "laid" and "egg" (white and green eggs for scale)
