It really depends on the reader. I look for a carefully crafted universe before caring about the plot or the hook. One of my all time favorites was Eragon book 1. The entire thicc thing was laying the foundation and building the universe. I enjoyed reading every page in that book.
Fast forward to book 2, where the "action" started, I quickly lost interest and eventually stopped reading, didn't finish the series to this day 🤣.
Now another thing that would give me fevered dreams are the things
@₿en Wehrman is sharing about flat earth, lands beyond the ice wall, the truth about earth and stars and the universe. I would kill to read a piece of fiction that navigates that world and teach us about it.
Like how we've been cut off from that greater earth even though we're at the center of it, how the curtain was placed over our eyes and minds for so long that we believed blatant illogical lies, that there are entire human nations that exist on greater earth and are attempting to bypass or make contact with us through our ice walls... Etc.
Sorry for the rant, just thinking out loud 👴🏽
