I exchanged a few messages with @nprofile1q... over #MeshCore and this is the path MC discovered and set up to deliver my messages. 15 hops, hundreds of km and the delivery was reliable. It doesn't stop to amaze me what low-cost hardware connected in a community mesh can do.

Last week, I signed a three-year electricity supply contract at a price of 2,440 CZK (€100)/MWh. On Monday, the supplier released a new price list, and the new price is 3,190 CZK (€130)/MWh for a two-year contract (they no longer offer the three-year option). That was quite a stroke of luck.

I've installed #PostmarketOS #Duranium on it because I think an image-based OS is a better fit for phone. Now I just need to figure out how to make Waydroid work because that doesn't seem to be straightforward on Duranium and there isn't a lot of documentation.

Another perk of #selfhosting is that the only service provider that can disappoint you is YOU.

Meshcore-open developers implemented image transport over LoRa. Images are downscaled to 512x512px, then encoded by AEIC codec [1] and then split into 163B chunks to fit into LoRa packets.

The codec requires a 800MB LLM which occupies several GB of memory when running. To transport small images over the mesh which will IMO fail in most real life scenarios because good luck delivering multiple large packets via multi-hop paths.

This implementation is about the same size as the whole code base of #Meshy. This feels like an extreme case of "because we can" enabled by subsidized tokens.
