Not that anyone should be using Apple as a computer, but the dystopia is definitely stretching deeper into the "Right to Read" scenario:
Apple scans your hard drive and...
* if it finds copies that it has identified as illegitimate according to the US government/Apple, it deletes them, and doesn't tell you. Even if you have a legal right to that copy (for example, if you have the copyright holder's permission to have that file, which trumps everything in copyright law).
* If it finds copies that it doesn't recognize (ie if you're a musician, your private works), it makes a copy and throws them in the cloud.
If it was originally recorded in high quality...it gets stored in the maximum quality that their cloud supports. ie not at your quality.
* ie If it finds a copy of a file that is legally yours, but you have a particular kind of copy (For example, my copy of Jewel's "America" with the word "fuck" in it)....it will not give you back the particular kind of copy, it will give you a vanilla copy. In other words, there's a whole history of music that millions of people's music collections represents, with idiosyncratic features that sometimes become historically interesting in and of themselves, are being steamrolled with whatever Apple feels like music history should be.
Now Apple claims "it's not supposed to do that". It doesn't matter. The fact that Apple claims the right to do that with their code is the problem. You should not have to worry about your platform betraying you in this manner.
If you are a musician I would suggest treating Apple hardware/software as if they would delete your files, as many files as you give them access to. Because it's not unlikely that they will.
